No Small Affair was founded in 1985 by Richard Kandel. The Foundation's objective is to provide entertaining and positive experiences for children who are homeless, physically, or emotionally challenged.
This singular driving objective – to bring joy to children in need – motivated the Foundation's 16 charter members to provide the finances necessary to launch No Small Affair. No Small Affair's first major event took place on July 31, 1985. This "Day at Shea" saw 125 children treated to a pre-game barbecue, the New York Mets baseball game, souvenirs, and, as a special treat, autograph signing by some of the Mets players.
Because of the smiles on the faces of the kids that day, No Small Affair committed itself to providing events, parties, and outings for as many children as possible. These affairs have, and always will be, the heart of the Foundation's activities.
